Illumination freeform design using Monge-Ampère equations
A presentation by Jan ten Thije Boonkkamp and Wilbert IJzerman, originally held at OSA Optical Design and Fabrication Congress as part of the Freeform Optics category in June 2019 in Washington DC is now available below. It shows how the Monge-Ampère equation can be used for two model systems
- Single reflector, parallel in, far field out
- Two lens surfaces, parallel in, parallel out
In addition, it shows how the systems may be solved numerically for some rather spectacular results, such as transforming a frog into a prince.
