FFSO members visit Signify facilities

On 14 July, COPS scientists and students visited the Signify facilities in Eindhoven as part of the NWO-TTW funded Free-Form Scattering Optics (FFSO) Perspectief program, that is executed by scientists at the technical universities of Eindhoven (TUe), Delft (TUD), and Twente (UT).

Signify is the world leader in lighting. To stay ahead of its competition, Signify employs free-form optics, one of the main research topics of our FFSO program. We got a tour of the optical testing lab, with an impressive integrating sphere with a diameter as large as 4 meters, and a large spectrometer to measure intensity as a function of angle and frequency, and labs where the optimal lighting conditions for plants are investigated. of course, we also had the chance to discuss intensively with Signify scientists.

The lab tour was a great success and we are grateful to the Signify colleagues for their hospitality. Such tours further strengthen the already long-standing contacts and collaborations between Dutch academia and high-tech industry.
